Best Senior Picture Locations in DFW (2026 Guide)

A curated guide to the best senior portrait locations across DFW. Golden hour fields, urban backdrops, lakeside spots, wildflower fields, ranches, and more.

May 21, 2026

DFW has way more senior picture locations than most people realize. Golden hour fields, downtown skylines, lakeside rocks, wildflower trails, ranches, even highland cow farms. I’ve shot across the metroplex for years and this guide covers the spots I actually recommend to seniors. Every location here works for senior portraits specifically, with practical info so you know what to expect.

Open fields and tall grass are the most requested look for senior portraits. The light at golden hour turns everything warm and soft, and you get that effortless, natural vibe without trying too hard.

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, Plano
#

6701 W Parker Rd, Plano, TX

Arbor Hills is one of the most popular portrait spots in all of DFW for good reason. Tall grass fields, tree-lined paths, an elevated boardwalk, and hilltop views all in one park. You can get a ton of variety without moving far. It does get crowded at golden hour so plan to arrive early and scout your spots. Free, no permit needed. If you’re looking for more spots near Frisco, check out the Frisco location guide.

Tandy Hills Natural Area, Fort Worth
#

3400 View St, Fort Worth, TX

Tandy Hills is one of those spots that feels like you left DFW entirely. It’s one of the last patches of original Fort Worth prairie with rolling hills, native tall grass, and wide open views. Less crowded than Arbor Hills and perfect for seniors who want that golden field look without a manicured park feel. Wildflowers pop up in spring too. Free, no permit needed.

Eagle Mountain Lake, Fort Worth
#

Eagle Mountain Park, 9500 Bonds Ranch Rd, Fort Worth, TX

If you’re going for a western or cowgirl vibe, this is the spot. Open fields, rustic fences, and a rural feel that doesn’t look anything like the suburbs. The lakeside adds another backdrop option if you want some water in the mix. Works great at golden hour. Free.

#

1500 E Crowley Park Dr, Richardson, TX

A wildflower-friendly park on the east side of the metroplex with open field areas, a pond, and trees. Peak bloom is usually May, and it gets crowded with photographers around peak. Not the most famous spot, but reliable if you want a field-and-wildflower combo without driving out to Ennis. Free.

Erwin Park, McKinney
#

4300 Country Club Rd, McKinney, TX

Pine trees and forest trails that give off Pacific Northwest energy without leaving Texas. The light filtering through the trees creates a moody, natural look that’s different from the typical open field session. Great for seniors who want something a little more wooded and dramatic. Free.

#

1650 Matlock Rd, Mansfield, TX

Big trees right at the entrance and shaded trails throughout. It’s about 20 minutes from Arlington and works well for seniors who want a natural canopy and softer light even on bright days. A solid alternative if you want wooded vibes without driving to McKinney. Free.

#

2400 Maham Rd, Richardson, TX

Tall grass and open field look on the east side of the metroplex. Less polished than Arbor Hills and that’s the whole appeal. Solid pick if you want the field vibe without fighting other photographers for the same patch of grass. Free.

Keller Pointe Park, Keller

When to Shoot & Seasonal Guide
#

Not every season works for every location. Here’s a breakdown of what peaks when.

Spring (March through May)
#

The best all-around season for DFW. Everything is green, wildflowers are blooming, and the temperatures are comfortable. Bluebonnets peak in early to mid-April. Book wildflower sessions as soon as you see bloom reports.

Fall (September through November)
#

The most popular season for senior portraits. Warm tones, golden grass, and cooler evenings. Open fields and ranch locations look their best. This is peak season so book early.

Summer (June through August)
#

Texas heat is real. Shoot late evening only. Lakeside and water spots are your best bet in summer since the water keeps things cooler. Samuel Farms has sunflowers in July if you want a summer wildflower look.

Winter (December through February)
#

Bare trees, dramatic skies, and wide open availability. Less popular, which means more flexibility on dates and locations. Urban spots and ruins look great in winter light.

Golden Hour in Texas
#

Every session is built around golden hour. In summer, that’s around 7:30 PM. Spring and fall, closer to 6:30 PM. Winter, around 5 PM. I schedule all outdoor sessions to catch this window.
