A Parent's Guide to Senior Portraits in DFW

If you’re here, you’re probably trying to figure out the whole senior portrait thing for your kid. Maybe they brought it up, maybe you saw other parents posting photos, or maybe you just know it’s coming and want to be ahead of it. Either way, this guide covers everything from booking to delivery so you know exactly what you’re getting into.

How the Whole Thing Works
#

The process is simple and I handle the creative side so you don’t have to.

  1. Reach out. Tell me a little about your senior and what you’re looking for. You can email, text, or book directly online.
  2. Plan. I’ll help with location, timing, and outfit suggestions. You’ll know exactly what’s happening before we start.
  3. Shoot. 60-minute session with guided posing and direction. Your senior shows up, I handle the rest.
  4. Download. Private online gallery delivered in 7-14 days with print-ready files for graduation announcements, wall prints, or whatever you need.

No subscriptions, no surprise fees, no upsells at the end.

What Your Senior Will Actually Experience
#

This is the part most parents want to know about. Here’s the honest version.

Sessions are fully guided. Your senior never has to figure out what to do with their hands or where to look. I walk them through every pose and every expression. The vibe is relaxed, not stiff. Most seniors tell me they were nervous going in and ended up having a great time.

We’ll spend about an hour together, usually at golden hour when the light is warm and flattering. They can bring a friend if that helps them feel comfortable. Most of the time, the nervous ones are the ones who end up with the best expressions once they relax.

The result? Photos that actually look like them on their best day. Not over-posed, not over-edited, just natural and confident.

When to Book
#

The most popular months for senior portraits in DFW are September through November (fall light, warm tones) and April through May (green everything, wildflowers). Those windows fill up fastest.

Here’s a rough timeline:

  • Spring of junior year: Great time to book early. Get photos you can use all of senior year. Read about why juniors are booking early.
  • Summer before senior year: Book late evening sessions to beat the Texas heat. Outdoor and underwater sessions are perfect for summer.
  • Fall of senior year: Peak season. Book 2-3 weeks ahead for the best availability.
  • Winter/Spring of senior year: Still plenty of time. Graduation portrait sessions work year-round.

Already past graduation? It’s never too late. If your kid has the cap and gown, we can still make it happen.

Outfit Planning
#

I help with this. After booking, I’ll send outfit suggestions based on the location and style we pick. The general advice:

  • Plan 2 outfits (one classic, one personality)
  • Solid colors and simple patterns photograph best
  • Steam everything the night before
  • Avoid large logos and neon colors

For the full breakdown, read the outfit planning guide.

FAQ
#

How much do senior portraits cost? Sessions start at $250 for a 60-minute session with 15 professionally edited photos, one outfit change, one Frisco-area location, and private online gallery delivery in 7-14 days.

How far in advance should we book? I recommend booking 1-3 weeks ahead. I keep a limited number of openings each month, so don’t wait too long during peak season. September through November and April through May fill up fastest.

What if my teen is nervous or doesn’t want to do it? Super common. Most seniors walk in nervous and leave having a great time. Sessions are fully guided with easy direction so nobody feels awkward or put on the spot. Having a friend come along helps too.

Do parents need to be there during the session? Totally up to you. Some parents watch, some drop off and grab coffee. Either way works. We can add a few family shots at the end too.

When will we get the photos back? 7-14 days. You’ll get a private gallery link where you can view, download, and order prints. No subscriptions, no surprise upsells.

Can we pick the location? Yes! I’ll recommend options based on the look your senior wants. Golden hour parks, urban backdrops, lakeside spots, and more across Frisco and North Texas.
