Underwater Senior Portraits in DFW — What to Expect#
Underwater portraits are unlike anything else in senior photography. They’re bold, artistic, and completely unique. If you’re considering an underwater session, here’s everything you need to know before booking.
The Process#
1. Planning Call#
Every underwater session starts with a conversation. We’ll talk about your vision, comfort level in water, wardrobe ideas, and the overall look you want. This isn’t a session you show up to cold — everything is planned in advance.
2. Wardrobe Selection#
Flowing fabrics look incredible underwater. Long dresses, skirts, and loose tops create beautiful movement. We’ll plan your wardrobe together so you know exactly what to bring.
What works well:
- Flowy dresses and skirts
- Light, billowy fabrics (chiffon, tulle, silk)
- Bold, solid colors that pop against the blue water
- Simple jewelry that won’t get lost
What to avoid:
- Heavy denim or structured clothing
- Anything that restricts movement
- Excessive accessories or loose items
3. Safety Briefing#
Before getting in the water, we do a full safety walkthrough. You’ll know exactly what to expect, how to move, and how to signal if you need a break. Your comfort and safety come first — always.
4. The Session#
Sessions take place in a private backyard pool (mine or yours). I use professional underwater lighting for clean, vibrant results. We work in short intervals with breaks between sets. Most seniors are surprised by how comfortable and fun it is.
5. Delivery#
Your edited gallery is delivered within 1-2 weeks via a private online gallery.
Do I Need to Be a Strong Swimmer?#
You should be comfortable in water, but you don’t need to be a competitive swimmer. We go at your pace, and you’re always in control of when you go under and when you come up.
Is It Safe?#
Safety is my top priority. The pool is shallow enough to stand in, and we do a full briefing before every session. You can take breaks whenever you need them.
How Much Does It Cost?#
Underwater sessions are $750 and include 5 professionally edited photos, the pool, lighting, safety briefing, and creative direction.
Can I Combine It With a Regular Senior Session?#
Yes! Many seniors book an outdoor session ($150) alongside their underwater session for a complete portfolio of looks.
